We are entering into the theme of 'Under The Sea'. This theme has been brought forward as the school will be celebrating the 1 week school holidays(applicable for the primary school children) in Phyllis' Riccia School.
Over the past 1 month, we are proud of all the students' achievements in establishing a good foundation for concepts of 1 more and sequencing. On top of that, they have also acquired other physical skills such as aiming, throwing towards the estimated distance.
In terms of writing skills, children are practising how to form sentences using their newly acquired vocabulary. There are tremendous amount of learning involved during the process. Not only will the children learn about punctuation and grammar, they will put their thoughts into a flow of logical text. Mom and dad out there, this is not a simple task for beginners-young writers!
Following last month concept on sequencing, the children will be introduced to money and its value. Please allow your child to collect coins of all denomination and to bring to school by 15th March 2010.
We will also be experimenting with concepts of sink and float.
Enjoy this theme with your child! Hope that your child could also join the celebration on the 13th & 14th March 2010 as they can showcase their percaussion skills as well as speech & drama performance.

1 more than 1 is 2 and so on...We've got it!
This is really not so easy as you thought. Our teacher has used many ways and strategies to help us deal with coordinating our prior knowledge on numeral & counting to seeing the sequence of numerals as 1 more than the previous number. Wow!
We have been dealing with lots of problem solving on the 'How many more' concept over the past 1 month. Luckily, we are beginning to fall in love with it especially now that we are getting the concept right and applying it well. Its fun!

Watch me grow
Dear Parents, I'm sure that you have gone through your child's documentation on the sequencing of their growth since birth to their 'resolution' for this year. Sequencing is also further reinforced through the activity of 'My calendar 2010'. Through that activity, children learnt what is next such as after Sunday is Monday and the cycle repeats. We have no doubt at all that our children know Monday to Sunday at their finger-tips. You will be surprised that when another attribute is introduced, children at this age will need a lot of guidance to crunch the sequence correctly and some still need more exposure that there is no 32nd of Jan, eg. if 31st Jan is a Friday, which day is 1st Feb (a few who are all set to think will answer Monday bcos beginning of new month means new day:-Good try, bcos they are thinking!Others who gave a wild guess couldn't explain for their choice bcos they have not notice that 31st Jan is the last day of that month).During your parental involvement at home, you may make use of your calendar to go through with your child. Please emphasize on sequence instead of focusing on memorising the names of month or the number of days in that month. Other than sequencing indoor, we sequence outdoor too! It took a while for some of the children to pass the baton to the correct person or to move to the next position! But after the 3rd practise session outdoor plus the many indoor activities on the concept of sequencing, they succeeded.Hippee! Hooray! The activity may be chaotic. If your child could find the sequence out of chaos, you should celebrate! Seat back and enjoy the pictures and the video!
